Othello

Recently I was seized by the desire to read something dramatic, with love, violence and amazing language, and re-read Othello for the first time in a few years. I was struck by how compelling it is despite reading a script of something that should be seen dramatized, and how powerful and evocative the speeches are.

As we are well into the summer months, probably some of us may have been contemplating an outdoor performance of Shakespeare? Or perhaps you find it inaccessible, even to view let alone to read?

Any opinions on the bard well received! Remember to take a thermos with you on your summer Shakespeare performances!

The Lovely Bones

"How many of you have read this book and what are your favourite parts?
Any interesting questions or things to ponder from it?
I really enjoyed the description of Susie Salmon's heaven and the way the writer shows how one action/event can affect so many people.
Looking forward to the film though not expecting it to be as good as the book; hope it's not a huge disappointment." --Sam Rich

The beginning...

Having graduated from an English Literature Degree last summer, I am saddened by the loss of a regular slot to discuss books of every kind. Therefore despite viewing everything "new" with extreme suspicion, I have decided to jump on the blogging bandwagon, and have a go at creating some sort of discussion forum. Bear with me because I have no idea how this blogging lark works, but I'm hoping other people will be able to comment on my posts (?!) therefore creating a discussion-type environment, rather than one in which I lecture everybody about what I think.

Please let me know if this is something you'd be interested in.
